Activities for non-skiers at selected ski resorts

Each ski resort seeks to compete to see who has the best, toughest and fastest ski runs, but what if you’re not skiing?

Well, there is also competition.

At Sun Valley Resort in Idaho, you can golf the 18-hole championship course at Trail Creek or fly-fish Silver Creek with brown and rainbow trout. There is even a carriage ride in the snow.

In Jackson Hole, Wyoming, you can snowshoe — at your own pace — with a guided national park tour. For a more exhilarating experience, you can rent snowmobiles and tour Jackson Hole’s backcountry.

In Breckenridge, Colorado, take control of a dog sled. You can also take the lift, and you don’t have to ski to experience the mountaintop Explorium, a children’s museum.

And Ski Valley in Taos, New Mexico offers 110 ski runs, but you can also raft a scenic route down the Rio Chama. And there are hot air balloon rides over the Rio Grande Gorge.

In Stowe, Vermont, non-skiers can still hit the slopes on fat bikes. You will be on a special bike with very big tires traveling through the mountain. It’s a bit of a workout and you might fall once or twice, but the views are worth it.
